Green Capitalism Against Single-Use Plastics?

Last Update:

The Bloomberg Green Festival runs from September 14 to 18, 2020.

The reason I know this is because I got an email from the CEO, with a subject line “Say ‘No’ to Single-Use Plastics.”

The message is clear, maybe well-meaning.

It’s also hollow.

You see, this employer, is only the second-largest public brokerage firm in the world. Services include sales and leasing, property management, project management, and development in the wide field of real estate.

This company has partnered with other big international companies that directly or indirectly harmed the environment through the use of single-use plastics.

Rather than sending out empty words to thousands of their employees, I’m more interested to see this Employer publicly relinquishing ties, major or minor, with non-environmental corporations, especially those in Oil & Gas industries. To be honest, though, what’s the Employer’s incentive to do so if it would harm profit? Being named the most ethical company, whatever that means?
